Witness for Mail Ballot

Notice To all Virginians voting by mail/absentee ballots for the November 3, 2020 elections Ballot-Envelope-B-1.png

If you believe you may not safely have a witness present while completing the absentee ballot for the November 3, 2020 Election, you are not required to have a witness present or have a witness sign your ballot envelope. Your ballot will not be rejected due to a missing witness signature. These instructions override any instructions on your ballot envelopes regarding witness signatures.

This is because of legal challenge brought by League of Women’s Voters. The agreement the Attorney General’s office made removed the witness requirement for the upcoming Election.

The Statement of Voter on Ballot Envelope B will still contain a place for a witnesses signature. The instructions included with the materials will inform voters that they do not need a witness.
